FAVOURITE | Cocobella

cocobella

There's always a new beverage product that we see constantly in the media with product placement and celebrity endorsement, its impossible to steer away from these fads. I'm talking about Vitamin Water, FIJI Water or any other glorified water on the market... albeit I fell victim to some of these.

Now it seems coconut water is the new trend. Growing up I always drank fresh coconut water and scooping out the flesh or buying those asian pre-packaged one filled with sugar and additives (so bad but so good). Coconut water has lots of benefits like high potassium and minerals, low in fat, and being noted has a great natural energy drink due to rich content of electrolytes.

On my recent trip to Thailand, all I drank was actual coconut that cost less than a dollar, ridiculous. Ever since I came back home I needed my fix and found Cocobella. I've tried many coconut beverages by western companies but they simply didn't taste the same however Cocobella has been the closest to actual coconut water. Take my word for it and even my co-worker who is a coconut enthusiast agrees.

They come in 250 ml popper for $3 with a impossible seal to punch your straw but after lurking their facebook, it seems you peel the seal. I've been an idiot at work using a fork or struggling for three minutes with the water spilling on me but I digress. Aside from the 'Straight Up' version, they also have other flavours added like pineapple, guava and mango, which I have yet to try.

On their website they have cocktail ideas which I'm intrigued to recreate especially their mocktail of a Mojito, my absolute favourite.

Coco Mojito

90 ml Cocobella Straight Up
60 ml White Rum
3 Lime Wedges
8 Mint Leaves
1 Cup Crushed Ice
2 teaspoons White Sugar
Soda water

Mix and muddle all ingredients and top up with soda water to taste, and garnish with a wedge of lime

Tip: I would modify this recipe with spearmint to have a more authentic Cuban taste and use ice cubes, so that the ice doesn't melt that easily and diluting the drink.

Cocobella is an Australian owned company and you can purchase them at most cafes, health retailers and local supermarkets.

FTC: I am not sponsored or affiliated with Cocobella but they should pay me or send me free products. I waste my lunch money on them everyday.
